Present-day Euharlee was settled in the 1840's after Burges Mill was constructed on the creek. Euharlee today retains many historic buildings dating back to the 1800s, including the famous covered bridge responsible for coining the slogan, "The Covered Bridge City". The Euharlee Covered Bridge is the state's oldest remaining covered bridge, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and part of the Georgia Covered Bridge Trail. Just south of the town, the soaring cooling towers of Georgia Power's Plant Bowen provide another landmark. The contrast between these two examples of the finest technology of their respective eras perhaps illustrates the City best: we are a progressive community working to move our City forward while preserving the rich history of our past.
